Helsingor is only 50km's away from Copenhagen that makes it super easy to get to by car or train. It takes about 40 minutes in the car or 50 minutes on the train. And you can get to Sweden in 20 minutes on the ferry, so it is a perfect location for your wedding if you are wanting a beautiful coastal town, wonderful scenery and easy to get to from Sweden and Copenhagen.
There are 10 km's of (very cold) water separating Helsingor and Helsingborg in Sweden and there is an operational ferry running daily.
Lots of people may have already heard of Helsingor as it hosts the castle that was made famous by Shakespeares' play 'Hamlet'. A place of pilgrimage for Shakespearean scholars from around the world. Follow in Hamlet's footsteps in the soldier's quarters and storerooms, which stretch beneath the castle and contain a famed statue of the legendary Viking chief Holger the Dane. It's a great trip out even for those not so keen on Shakespeare!
After the castle you can then relax at the beautiful Helsingor Havn the wonderful marina, you can watch the sun go down and share a picnic there are lots of wonderful restaurants in the area our particular favourite being Kaj that serves wonderful food and really shows the meaning of the Danish word Hygge!
Stengade & Axeltorv - Axeltorv, to the west of Skt. Anna Gade, is the bustling hub of Helsingor. Here you will find, a beautiful fountain, created by Einar Utzon-Frank (1926) and was erected in memory of King Eric of Pomerania, who gave Helsingor it's original charter. Markets are held at Axeltorv on Wednesday's and Sunday's - from May to October, there's also an antique market each Friday. Just a couple of minutes' walk away, in the medieval part of town, you will find the popular street of Stengade that has plenty of places to eat and shop.
Helsingor is home to a variety of cafes and restaurants to suit an array of different pallets. To sample some of Denmark's best Fish and Chips, we recommend visiting 'The Fish Project'. Or if it's a taste of Italian cuisine that you're after, we recommend visiting 'Vecchia Maniera' - here you will experience some wonderfully fresh, homemade pizza's, that can be eaten in or taken away. If you fancy trying some local Danish cuisine, 'Cafe Hyacinth' is the place the visit, here they serve inexpensive, delicious and foods such as the smørrebrød.
